Corfu Channel Case
The first case decided by the ICJ, it was important in establishing state responsibility for endangering human life.
Corfu Channel dealt with a dispute between the UK and Albania over mines that had damaged a British ship in 1946. Albania had laid them in the channel without notifying foreign ships.
Albania was ordered to pay £843,947 in compensation.
