The Guatemalan village of Panabaj, hit by a mud slide caused by hurricane Stan, is going to be declared a mass grave. Rescue workers are giving up digging for approximately 1,400 people who are buried under 40 feet of mud.
The earthquake in Pakistan is now estimated to have killed nearly 20,000 in a disaster, as the LA Times describes it, that “entombed hundreds of children in their schools, flattened a high-rise apartment building in the Pakistani capital and devastated an untold number of villages.”
Words fail me.
