Hope for Darfur?

Mark Wagner

Sitting in Rwanda, where only 12 years ago the world sat in indifference while as many as 1 million people were slaughtered, I was very pleased on Monday to read about US Representatives getting arrested while protesting outside the Sudanese Embassy against the genocide in Darfur. And it was just as nice, and a little more personal, to get my mom’s email saying she’d gone to the protest in St. Paul.

Yesterday there was news that at least one rebel faction has agreed to a peace deal. The rest are more likely to agree to it if a UN force, with the authority and power to actually fight, can be brought in. We Americans need to keep putting the pressure on our government to make that happen.

Please. We’ve already let three years slip by while the criminal government of Sudan has gone on killing its own people and we’ve been…watching American Idol? I don’t know. But please, go to DarfuGenocide.org and find out how to write a letter to the President and take other action.

Let me know what you think:
