Couchsurfing in London
After a great trip in NYC and Brooklyn, Mark and I arrived in London early morning on 3/15 and are staying through just moments now (3/16 morning) until we get on the train to Heathrow to head off to Nairobi (arriving early morning 3/17).
When we first found the tube to the city center from the airport, I thought I was going to melt into the comfortable tube seats. The tube seems absurdly expensive to us, but it’s worth it for those seats.
While in London for one night, we’ve been couchsurfing. We learned about this adventurous travel behavior from our good friend and Mark’s step-sister, Sarah, who is doing this throughout her own 6-month adventures in Europe.
The woman we stayed with is a leftist who grew up in East Germany, lived in Argentina, and landed in London some time ago. She has a son whom she is frustrated with (but who seems really chill and cool to me and Mark), and constantly complained about his behavior, even though we only saw him a few times for just moments. I also thought that, even though we were quite different from her in our beliefs and perspectives, we could still find common ground.
While here, we went on a walking tour throughout the fascinating British Museum, walked along the Thames, saw the Tower of London and the Tower Bridge, and got to ride the tube. We liked the modern architecture all mixed up with the famous old buildings, like the Tower.
