A crony for the refugees

Ellen Sauerbrey is Bush’s nominee to head the refugee program in the State Department. She’s a little, shall we say, lightly credentialed. In fact, her nomination is nothing short of outrageous.

TNR’s blog: “She claims that she has one piece of vital experience that will enable her to run the $1 billion program. Sauerbrey once managed the U.S. Census in three Maryland counties.”

According to the The Washington Post’s coverage the Democrats gave her a very hard time in hearings today, but the Republican controlled Senate is expected to confirm her.

Ronald Reagan, to paraphrase, said that government is not the solution, it’s the problem. Bush is determined to make that true.

  1. I'm worried that the story about Sauerbrey's nomination hearings will get lost in all the noise around Alito's SCOTUS nomination. Sauerbrey just isn't as "sexy" a story to the blogosphere. BUT, if we can mobilize people, Sauerbrey is such an unfit nominee that I think we actually have a shot at shutting her down.
